Concrete Pipe Week 2015

National Concrete Pipe Week Declared for August 16-22

Several states join call to celebrate industry’s contributions to society

DALLAS (August 11, 2015) – Governors across the United States are dedicating a week this summer to some of the most overlooked, taken-for-granted, yet irreplaceable products on Earth.

For the first time, National Concrete Pipe Week will be observed from August 16-22, as the nation formally recognizes the vital importance of reinforced concrete pipe and precast concrete products to the health, safety and well-being of our citizens. The contributions of thousands of workers, hundreds of manufacturing plants and other industries that support concrete pipe producers will likewise be acknowledged during this week-long celebration.

“For more than a century, concrete pipe has been the product of choice used in North America’s vast network of sewers and culverts, and yet most Americans don’t give these vital, ‘unseen’ structures a second thought,” said Matt Childs, president of the American Concrete Pipe Association (ACPA). “It’s understandable, given that our products have a 100-year service life. They’re easy to forget. So it’s gratifying that our industry and the professionals that have dedicated their careers to it are finally getting some much-deserved recognition.”

A Proclamation signed by Georgia Governor Nathan Deal reads, in part, reinforced concrete pipe and precast are of vital importance to sustainable communities and to the health, safety and well-being of the people of Georgia…

In the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Proclamation, Governor Terry McAuliffe notes that concrete pipe is made of all natural materials: rock, sand, water, and cement, which Virginia supplies…, as is the case in most states.

In his Proclamation, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper stresses that members of the ACPA and its Colorado chapter contribute to the safety of the traveling public and to the improvement of our environment by providing quality concrete pipe that has been engineered to help reduce drainage and pollution problems.

National Concrete Pipe Week also serves as a time to recognize the many contributions of other industries that ensure concrete pipe and precast products are properly produced, transported and installed within our transportation system. The trucking industry, sand and rock producers, cement producers, contractors and transportation department professionals provide the additional support that ensures concrete pipe remains an invaluable capital investment in the economic growth, development and stability of our nation.

Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson recognizes such contributions in his state’s Proclamation, which reads reinforced concrete pipe and precast concrete products and services could not be provided without the dedicated efforts of the concrete pipe and precast industry, the trucking industry, the sand and rock producers and the cement producers…
